Coaches Pat & Melissa Savage will lead their 6th
Runners’ Tour of Ireland in the summer of 2006. Included in the tour is your flight, bus, hotels, tour fees,
breakfast every day, dinners on non-race nights and lunch on those days you run
races. You will circle Ireland from
Dublin City down to Waterford, Cork, Cobh, and Blarney Castle, and then up
through Limerick to Feakle and through
Clare and the Burren onto Galway, The Aran Islands, and Loughrea. You will have the opportunity to run with a
group every morning and end the night in a local pub.
This 10 day Tour will cost lest than $2500 for
students (under 25) and just over $2800 for adults. You will need to send a
check for $95 made out to Coach Savage to reserve your ticket. You will be notified before your check is
cashed. Send your check to Coach Savage

Day 1 – July 1st Depart Chicago on a regularly
scheduled airline. (Saturday Evening)
Day 2 – July 2nd Arrive in Swords with bus
transportation to Dublin City. Coach
Savage will lead you
Around Swords including the “Savage” Castle. You will take a walk/run around
Dublin
with stops at local pubs and shopping areas.
You will tour Jameson’s Distillery.
Day 3 – July 3rd You will have a short bus tour
of Dublin including a tour of the Guiness Brewery.
You
will run a race in the Savage ancestral town of Swords hosted by the Fingallians
Athletic
Club. An awards party with food will be
sponsored by Coach Savage’s cousins.
Day 4 – July 4th You will ride the bus to the
Waterford Factory where you will see how Waterford is made.
You
will be staying overnight in the Cork area.
Day 5 – July 5th Today you will visit the ancient
port of Cobh and tour the museum. Then
we bus to
Blarney Castle
and Woolen Mills which has the best shopping in Ireland. Tonight we race
4 miles in Carrigtwohill, in a race with over 300 Irish runners. This race is hosted by
Coach Savage’s
cousin and Stryker Corporation. The
race is followed by a party with lots
of food. You
will stay overnight in Cork.
Day 6 – July 6th You will bus through Limerick
and on to the ancient town of Feakle and Biddy Early’s
Cottage. You will be staying in Limerick or in a
Hostel in Feakle.
Day 7 – July 7th Today we bus the Coastal Road to
the Burren and then on to the spectacular Cliffs of
Moher. We will stay overnight in Galway.
Day 8 – July 8th After an early morning jog, you
will take a boat out to the Aran Islands.
You will have
The
evening to visit the local Irish Pubs that always have music.
Day 9 – July 9th Today is a free day to rest up and
walk around Galway. Tonight we may be
racing in
Loughrea
in a race hosted by Coach Savage’s cousins.
The race will be followed by an
Irish
Hoolie (party) at a local pub hosted by the Loughnane families. Sonia O’Sullivan
set
the world record in a race in Loughrea!
Day 10–July 10thToday
you will take a bus to the airport (Duty Free Shopping) and head back to
Chicago. For an
extra fee you (Uusally $95) can stay longer in Ireland
or extend your stay to England.
We
are planning 3 roadraces in the evening (Entry Fees are about 5 Euros.) of 3
Miles, 4 Miles, and 3 Miles. There is
an awards party after each race. The
bus will pick us up around 11:30 PM from each race.
