Hello, Athletes!

Well, it was quite a disappointment to return from San Diego last night and find that no one had done anything about getting rid of the cold weather! Imagine our shock, after basking in clear blue skies at 80° for a week, to get off the plane and see our breath on the jetway. Heck, we weren’t even outside yet! And, from what the weatherman says, we ain’t seen nothing yet. Has this been the coldest two months of our lives or what?

Thank goodness we have the wonderful, heated indoor track at Niles West HS! And what, you ask, is the workout for Wednesday: how about 2 sets of 6 X 3 laps? Doesn’t that sound like fun? We’ll be smokin’ around the turns tomorrow night!

The workout for Monday night, January 27th, is 12X2 laps, 1 every 2:00. Warm-up begins at 5:30PM, the workout at 6PM.

Thanks to Mitch for coaching practice last week while we were basking in…yeah, I know I already mentioned 80 DEGREES.

Get ready to really rock at the NWORC Team Party, on tap for February 1st at Dave and Gloria Moyer’s house, gun goes off at 7:05PM. If you plan on attending and have not yet signed up, you still have time! Forms will be available at the next three practices, but the deadline is Wednesday, January 29th, practice night. All forms and money MUST be submitted by that time because the food will be ordered the next day. Please do not wait until Saturday at the party to tell me you meant to sign up but… The cost is $10 per person, and you bring what you want to drink. I am also accepting donations for a gift to give Coach Savage, maximum amount $10.

We are expecting a big turnout at the CARA Awards Banquet this Saturday night. The festivities begin at 6PM with cocktails and silent auction bidding, dinner at 7PM, and the awards & live auction at 7:45PM. Posting of the silent auction winners is at 9PM, just about the time the band gets heated up for dancing!!! Many NWORC athletes will be honored, and your team will receive the Championship Trophy as winners of the Green Division for the 13th time!! GO TEAM!!!

This Friday night is the second All-Comers Meet at NWHS. Events begin at 6PM in the NWHS Fieldhouse. Come on out and put your best up against the local talent. Dates for the last two meets are January 31st and February 7th. We need volunteers to help with various tasks; let Coach Savage know if you can assist.

Races (yep, it’s time to start thinking about that again): Wacky Snacky 5K on February 16th, Shamrock Shuffle on March 23rd. SS is the first race of the 2003 CARA Circuit since March Madness opted off the Circuit this year. MM will be held on March 16th, race time 9:30AM.

The Ireland Reunion Party is tentatively set for Sunday, February 2nd. Details to follow.

That’s it for this edition of the news. See you on the oval!
