Newsletter 01/08/03

Hi, everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Yes, Mrs. Coach has returned to the website after a lengthy absence for no real good reason other than: THE HOLIDAYS. Wow, what a whirlwind. I don’t know about you but I’m really glad they’re over. On to 2003 and another winning year for NWORC!

Much to talk about! The 2003 practice schedule is out, and includes the planned workouts for Monday nights as well as Wednesdays. On Mondays warm-up will begin at 5:30PM and the workout at 6PM; Wednesdays stay the same, with warm-up at 6PM and workout at 6:30PM. The weight room is before and after practice, if you’re interested in a throwing some weight around. There will be NO Monday practice on January 20th. Check the tab marked SCHEDULE on the website for information about the workouts. Don’t forget that first Wednesdays of each month are PIZZA NIGHT!!

Niles West Open Track Meets: January 17th, 24th, 31st at 6PM in the NWHS Fieldhouse. This is a great way to test your early year speed, with many good high school and adult runners participating. If you would like to volunteer to help out (we really need you!), please see Coach Savage.

We will have a sheet with the following two events on it for sign-up:

CARA Awards Banquet: Saturday, January 25th: the invitations to the banquet should be in the mail! We are putting together team tables, so hold on to those return cards for Coach – he will collect them and send in a list to ensure we can sit together. It will be a fun event this year, with lots of cheering for your teammates and TEAM!!

Club Party, Saturday, February 1st: being held at Dave & Gloria Moyer’s house in Skokie. The details: cost is $10/person, bring your own drink of choice, and I will also be collecting $10/runner as a donation to buy a gift for Coach Savage. If you don’t have ten bucks to give, whatever you can donate is appreciated. We didn’t do the gift last year and it seemed very weird. After all, he is THE MAN!

Upcoming races: Wacky Snacky on February 23rd, and Shamrock Shuffle, the first Circuit race of 2003, is March 23. Entry forms will be on the spindle. If you enter a race on your own, please remember to tell Coach Savage so he can put you on the results.

Yours in running,
