Hello to all Niles West Oakton Runners Club members, and all visitors to our Website!
Well, the 25th LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon is history, in a BIG way! What a day for 37,000 athletes and volunteers: the weather turned out better than originally forecasted (thank goodness!) and most of the runners successfully completed the distance. Kudos to Carey Pinkowski and his incredible staff for staging the premier marathon in the world! It was a huge day for Paula Radcliffe, flying to a finish time of 2:17:18 to better Catherine Ndereba’s record time of 2001 by 1 minute and 29 seconds. And our favorite son Khalid just missed his own record, running an incredible 2:05:56. Thanks to all who volunteered to hand out water and Gatorade – you guys really make this race the first-class event that it is.
For the results for YOUR NWORC friends, look under RESULTS on the website. Congratulations to all, especially our first-timers: Rich Machalinski, Stuart Gootnick, and Steve Warsaw. You are awesome! Perhaps a small celebration at Shotsy’s after practice??
And speaking of practice, the workout for Wednesday, one of our favorites: interval miles!!! 5 X 1600M, one every 11 minutes. Yes, it’s a long workout, and I think we deserve a beer after that…
Okay, onward. There are only two races left on the Circuit: Sycamore on October 27th and Westchester on November 10th. If you haven’t already done so, get your applications into Coach Savage. Although it appears we’ve won the Yellow Division for this season, we still need everyone to go out to these races and do your best!
Please remember that monthly club fees are due. We ask that you pay by check so we can keep track of who’s up to date. If you pay in cash, please put it in an envelope with your name on the front. We won’t turn down any money!
