Good day to all NWORC athletes and website visitors!

Your team had a terrific turnout for the final Circuit race at Westchester this past Sunday. For the first time in a LONG time, the Veterans’ Day 5K-10K provided warm temperatures, which pushed your teammates to some great times. Niles West/Oakton had 7 age-group winners, sealing our 13th Championship in the Yellow Division!! WAY TO GO, RUNNERS! There were strong performances by ALL our athletes, as we raced our way to the finish of a long season. Check the results page on the website for times and places.

And, just because we love to race, this weekend a bunch of NWORC folks are going to run the Harvest Run, sponsored by the Heartland Café, 7000 N. Glenwood in Chicago. I think the distance is 5K or something close to that, but it doesn’t really matter, we’re going for the food! For more information and race applications, log on to (www.heartlandcafe.com) There is also race-day registration. Hope to see you there!

The workout for this week: we will be outdoors unless the weather changes dramatically. (It’s always a good idea to bring clothes for indoors just in case.) We will run 8 X200 M with a 200M jog, once every 2:30. This is a great speed session, and is over quick, with enough time for a beer at Shotsy’s afterward!!

Sunday, December 8th is the NWORC PUB RUN, starting at 2:30PM. We will depart from NWHS, and lope our way to various pubs in the area, with the final destination our favorite pizza haunt, Barnaby’s! For more information, check the spindle at practice or email me at coachmpsavage@hotmail.com.

The applications for the S-No-W Fun Run have arrived, and as usual are a great read… I tell ya, these Lakes Area Running Club people have way too much fun. So how’s ‘bout a good turnout from the NWORC gang? The date is Saturday, January 4th, race time 2:30PM from the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, the distance is 5 miles and the party is awesome! If you want to stay over on Saturday night, the Grand Geneva is offering a special rate of $105, reservation deadline Dec. 4th (mention the Lakes Area Running Club to get the discount). Last year a lot of NWORC runners took advantage of this, and we all went out to dinner together (those of us who could function after The Party). The course is really nice, and the weather has been ok, although it is January and anything can happen. Warm up with the peppermint schnapps at the finish line!!

CARA Awards Banquet Saturday, January 25th at the Chicago Athletic Club: if you want to sit with the team, give Coach Savage your reservation card and he will mail them all in at once. If you don’t receive a card and want to go, check with you-know-who. It will be a great night to celebrate!

Niles West/Oakton Runners Club Team Party, Saturday, February 1st at Dave and Gloria Moyer’s house in Skokie. Like last year, we’ll collect money for catered meal (so much easier than figuring out who brings what…), everyone brings their drink of choice and a little extra, and maybe Sr. Kathleen can pull some strings for dessert again. This year, we’ll also collect money to give Coach Savage a gift. Details as we get closer to the date.
