Newsletter 02/19/03

Howdy to all athletes and friends! Hope this day finds you happy and healthy. We long for the days when we don’t have to wear three layers of workout clothes to go out for a run. Spring is coming, sometime. Just think, you could live in New York! How depressing would THAT be right now?

Congratulations to Stuart and Dick for successful completion of the New Orleans ½ Marathon this past weekend. They both had great finishes, and it appears enjoyed themselves heartily in the Crescent City. How could you have a bad time in the French Quarter?

The workout for 2/19: 3 sets of 5 X 200M, a real test of speed and endurance. It’s a bone-crusher for sure! Come ready to sweat up a puddle.

On Monday 2/24 the workout will be 1 minute fast / 1 minute easy, for a total of 24 minutes. Beginning immediately, the stretch after Monday workouts will be conducted by Coach Pat Savage. You will notice a difference from the usual stretch, maybe not in a bad way, just make sure you get a good stretch completed.

And speaking of Monday night workouts, it’s pretty certain that we’ll continue to hold them thru spring. The schedule will be updated to show what the workouts will be.

Applications for Wacky 5K are due this Wednesday 2/19!! We’re still looking for volunteers to help at Wacky; see Coach Savage if you can help out.

Shamrock Shuffle 8k is running 3/23; see Coach Savage for details and application information.

Don’t forget that March 5th is Coach Savage’s birthday as well as Pizza Night. We’ll have a little celebration for himself at Barnaby’s – please plan on attending this special event!

Please welcome Bridget Killacky to our Monday night workouts. She has come to us to be a guide for Heidi, a very exciting happening. She is a student at UIC, has run a couple of marathons and is looking forward to being a big part of Heidi’s athletic life. We may have to have a Monday edition of Pizza Night unless she can get her classes changed (pizza certainly being the priority).

That’s about it for now – seems like there should be more but nothing comes to mind. Oh, one last thing: it’s Jeremy’s birthday 2/19 and the plan is to go to Shotsy’s for a beer after practice. Stick around for what promises to be a good time!!

See you on the oval!

Melissa
