Newsletter 2/4/03

Good day to NWORC athletes and all other visitors!! I hope you are well and healthy, enjoying life to the fullest.

Well, we had a rip-roaring team party this past Saturday night! Our most appreciative thanks go to Dave and Gloria Moyer for allowing this crazy group to descend upon their house for hours of merriment. And thanks to all who attended: it’s a real testament to the strength of the NWORC to see so many runners come out for an evening of socializing. And also thanks to that group of unsung heroes: our spouses and significant others. They support our addiction to running by coming to races, doing laundry, making meals and generally taking care of us while we put in miles. I’m already looking forward to next year’s bash!!

The workout for Wednesday, the one you all clamor for: mile repeats!!! Yippee!! You get to do 3 x 1 mile, one every 10:00, with a 200M sprint at the end. This is a fast workout because it’s PIZZA NIGHT!! Wooooohoo!

Race news/info: if you plan on running the Wacky 5K on March 3rd, get your entry blanks to Coach Savage by Wednesday, February 12th. We are also recruiting people to help at the race; if you’re interested see Coach Savage for sign-up. And start thinking about Shamrock Shuffle on March 23rd.; again we need volunteers to help out at the event.
The final All-Comers Meet is this Friday night, February 7th, in the Niles West field house. Last week we had a huge turnout, runners of all ages and ability vying for a ribbon. If you feel the need for some fun competition, plan on attending. Running events begin at 6PM.

I am very much in need of someone to be Heidi Musser’s running guide. Heidi runs on our team, competes in triathlons, and has been blind since birth. She really needs a giving, sensitive, dedicated athlete to be her guide for training and racing. Heidi runs a 11:00 mile at this time, but has great potential for improvement. Her ultimate goal is to run a marathon, and eventually compete in the Ironman Kona Triathlon. There is money available to pay this wonderful person to be an important part of the Challenged Athletes experience. If you’re interested, please contact me via email (coachmpsavage@hotmail.com).

Happy Birthday to the Babes of February:

Warren Appel 2/12 (soon to be a new dad!!)
Katie Barrett 2/21
Jeff Beaumont 2/5
Jeremy Bleichman 2/19
Marilee Summers 2/17
Carter Kirk 2/1
Cari Krikorian 2/10
Bob McKeague 2/17
Heidi Musser 2/3
Katie Zavodny 2/26
Happiest if birthdays to all!! If I missed your special day, please email me and I’ll make the correction pronto! That’s all the news for this edition – see you on the oval!! Coach Melissa
