Good morning, Athletes!
Another Wednesday is upon us, so here's the news and views:
Congratulations to our athletes who participated in the Sweetness Run this past Sunday in Aurora. Gloria Iverson was the overall winner, with a time of 36:51. We had many ages group winners, but so did those Fox River Trail Runners, so remember: if there is a Circuit race with two distances, we need people to participate in the each of the races to get more team points. More on that strategy as we go along.
No report yet on the Lamermayer party after the Sweetness race. Paddy and I were not able to attend due to Club North Shore 1/2 Marathon duties so we don't know if everyone is still out there partying!!
A special congratulations to Stewart who ran the Sunburst 1/2 Marathon in South Bend this past Saturday. He reports that this race is VERY nice, particularly the finish line inside the Notre Dame football stadium. Way to go, Stewart!!!
Next race up on the Circuit is the Galloping Ghost 5K on July 19th (a Saturday race). Mitch is the race director, and puts on an excellent event. Great course, lots of goodies afterward and he's promised a new awards announcer for this year. Get out there and run, run, run!
Tonight's workout: We will be on the track tonight, running 8 X 1K. We'll run one every 7:00. You can also do 800M or 600M. We will go inside after cooldown for stretching. Please note that for the summer we will most often be on the track due to the West Nile virus problem. If we think it's OK to go to the bridge, we'll let you know ahead of time. Those darn mosquitoes....
Saturday morning runs meet at Linn Woods Forest Preserve, Dempster just east of Lehigh (across from Maxwell's). Start time is 8AM, distances range from 6 to 10 miles. Breakfast afterward at Marilyns.
Birthdays for June:
Brian Bassler 6/20
Eric Aponte 6/12
John Collet 6/20
Vicente Garcia 6/19 (where has he been??)
Kathleen McDonough 6/25
Carey Pinkowski 6/30
Dan Schmidt 6/20
Adina Thornton 6/7
Keith West 6/24

That's it for now - see you tonight!
Melissa

Hello Athletes,

1 - Because of the West Niles Virus all summer workouts will be at the NW Track. However, you can still do the bridge warm-up. We will stretch after each workout in the fieldhouse. The weights have been moved to the Fieldhouse so you can use them if you want.
2 - Sr. Kathleen's birthday is Wednesday June 25th. There will be a Pizza Party, Birthday Party, and Grandma's Marathon Party. The cost of the Cake and Pizza will be $8. I would like to have an idea of how many of you will be attending so I can order the cake. Let me know at practice next week.
3 - Sweetness - we had 7 winners - congratulations to all who ran.
4 - Keep recruiting runners for our team. Those FOX guys and gals are outnumbering us at races 3 to 1!!
5 - The NW Track will be open on Monday nights for practice.
6 - The Saturday morning group meets at 8:00 AM at the Forest Preserve Parking Lot on Dempster just east of the Tracks at Lehigh and runs anywhere from 6 to 10 miles on the path heading North. They then go to breakfat at Marilyn's which is on Dempster east of Austin and west of Menard.
7 - Thanks again to Dick Lamermayer for hosting a gathering at his house after the Sweetness Run. Back in the old days when we first started running together, your club had a get-together after almost every race.
8. Remember to register for Mitch's Ghost 5K Run in July with Coach Savage. This 5K is a very good race and we need everyone there to beat those Fox guys and gals!!!
9. It is much cheaper to register on-line for the Chicago Distance Classic so do it that way.

All the best,

Coach Savage
